The Love Hearts factory, the nostalgic sweet brand which everyone associates with childhood and romance, is officially Britain’s most romantic workplace; one in four of the current workforce of 600 people is in a relationship with a colleague. Looks like they’re pretty loved up!

The couple were interviewed about how they found love at work and were asked what their recipe to a healthy, long-lasting relationship was. These tips have been the key to happiness for many loving relationships at the Love Hearts factory, some of which have lasted upward of 30 years, so pens and paper at the ready!

Love Hearts’ top relationship tips

1) Make time for each other

It might sound obvious, but Adele and Andrew Burton who met in the Love Hearts department, believe that this simple rule has been vital to the success of their 20 year marriage. So use your free time wisely and commit one evening solely to your partner.

2) Avoid arguments

Sarah and Tony, who also met through their employment at Swizzels, claim that ditching the petty arguments in favour of respect and understanding is crucial to a happy relationship. So perhaps the old adage of ‘Don’t go to bed angry’ really does drive results when it comes to love.

3) Don’t take each other for granted

Valuing your partner and all that he or she does for you is also hugely important according to the couples at the Swizzels factory. Remember to thank your partner on a daily basis in order to pave the way for a long and appreciative life together. This is something which Chris and Robert, who have known each other since 1994, agree is vital to a happy relationship.

4) Be patient

Patience doesn’t come easily but being able to accept your partner and avoiding trying to change them will reap its benefits later down the line. If there are any hard-and-fast rules in love, patience is the one, think Joy and Karl who have been together for many years after meeting at a Swizzels Christmas party.

5) Work at it

There’s no easy answer to making a relationship work but being able to persevere when times get tough is hugely important in any partnership. This is a belief that, Lynne and Pete Milling explain, has been the driving force behind their 32 years as a married couple.
